The brooch we propose to you is directly inspired of a hairpin of the Qinq dynasty (1644-1912). The hairstyles of the chinese women evolved according to the dynasties but it is from the Han dynasty that the bun becomes very widespread.
The ladies decorated them with jewels and others ornaments called "flowers of head". These hairpins served as social distinction and to show off women beauty.
These spades were carried by the women having their majority. They gave to the girls to their fiftieth birthday their first hairpin as a sign of the passage to the adulthood.
These jewels inserted of kingfisher feather became rare. Only those for the Opera of Beijing are still manufactured. The model we propose to you is directly ispired of the european art of the beginning of the 20th century, which had a strong influence on the chinese art and its derivated products.
The presence in China of foreign concessions left traces as well political as artistic.
