BAOULE MASK N°2.

Original: Baoulé Mask n° 2 (Ivory Coast)

The old kingdom formed at the XVIIIème century, left the place at the XXème century to a whole of independent villages. Mistrust towards any political system established, generated a tolerant company where everyone had right to the chapter, including the slaves and it was not rare to see the women occupy the function of chief of village. This type of masks called gbagba is carved in the honor of the young women appreciated for their beauty. They are not a naturalist representation but the expression of an ideal. Their appearances at the time of the festivals cause enthusiasm and admiration. The resin model we propose to you is identical to the original one.
